This cinema verité feature is an a contracted, faster paced, version of the series with all the same characters and most of the same events.

The characters are from a wide cross section of reserve life. There is Chief Andy, leading the band into questionable economic development schemes in the face of 50% unemployment; Ivy, his daughter, returned from a self-imposed exile after sending her husband to jail for assault and molestation of her daughters, determined to become spiritually whole; Norma who leads a rent revolt against the Band Administration; Mike who has returned home from the gay scene in Vancouver to die of AIDS; Phillip, the Band Councilor who opposes all social and judicial initiatives to heal the community, admitting he?d rather commit suicide than deal with his own abuses; Kirk the aspiring young hockey player; Debbie, his sacrificing Mom, and Charlene the outspoken head of Treaty negotiations who has many, both on and off the reserve, continuously upset with her. But the main character of the series is the community itself. As the story threads weave through the year the film provides us a unique window on the contradictions and complexities, the joys and the horrors, of a First Nations Reserve.
