Travels with a Post Modern Buddhist

(Watch an extended clip via the Films Page.)

Shot by the filmmaker during five and a half weeks in Mongolia the film is a personal account of his coming to terms with doubt and faith as he observes the difficult rebirth of Buddhism during a visit by the Dalai Lama.

After the 16th century, Buddhism thrived on the Mongolian steppes. It turned a nation of warriors into peaceful nomads. Originally imported from Tibet it soon had its own, distinctive, character. In 1921 the Communists seized power and within 20 years Buddhism was virtually wiped out.

In 1991 with the coming of democratization, old men went into their trunks and put on their monks robes once more.  But 60 years is a long time. Nearly everything had been forgotten.
